VANCITY     COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

The VanCity Community Foundation (VCF) is a public charity guided by an independent Board of Directors. It utilizes community economic development strategies, partnerships and advocacy to effect positive change. Established in 1989, VCF manages more than $56.7 million in charitable funds, including in excess of $1 million for more than 150 "donor advised funds"

The Wheel Community Foundation is established as a donor-advised fund, a charitable giving vehicle administered and managed by VCF. VCF accepts charitable donations on behalf of The Wheel, manages the funds based on sustainable and responsible investment practices, and distributes funds through grants to other charities that are aligned with The Wheel's vision.

FUNDING

Jon used his entire $5,000. Canada's Volunteer Award grant to seed The Wheel. You can support our vision of providing grants to First Nations artists who believe that broad recognition of their creativity will help them connect with their heritage, embrace their culture and fulfill their potential. USE OF FUNDS

Each year the fund will select one Aboriginal artist who will be awarded:
  • A $500 grant.
  • A showing at one of Vancouver’s prestigious Aboriginal art galleries
  • A one-on-one mentoring session covering a variety of art-business disciplines such as personal marketing, gallery presentation, and more.
  • Other benefits to be determined.

FUND GOVERNANCE

The Wheel is administered and managed by VCF, Their investments are managed primarily through Vancity Investment Management, according to an Investment Policy Statement set by their Board of Directors. As of 06/30/2016, the VCF donor advised portfolio achieved a 1-year return of 3.23% and 3-year annualized return of 13.83%. 

The Zwickel's pay all of The Wheel's operating expenses, the fund has no employees and VCF administrative fees total only 1.45%. This means that of every $1,000. donated to The Wheel, just over $985 goes directly to fulfilling our mandate. However, if you choose to donate using CanadaHelps, they charge us an additional 3.9% fee.

TAX RECEIPTS

​A tax receipt will be issued by Vancity Community Foundation for donations of more then $20. The Income Tax Act does not permit the issuance of tax receipts to anyone other than the donor (the person or company whose name is on the credit card). The VCF charitable registration number BN 89202 8242 RR0001. ​
